A DIY standing desk may not sound like the perfect idea for someone who has back problems but it is probably the ideal solution for these problems. We spend most of our waking hours at work – hunched over our laptops or computers, without really caring about what it is doing to our backs or spines. The way we sit at our desks is not ideal for our structure at all, which is why so many people suffer from back aches and problems of the neck. To counter this, many companies have introduced the concept of standing desks into their workspace so that there is enough and more opportunity for people to work without legitimately destroying their backs. It is not that we do this deliberately, but it is easy to forget about posture when someone is rushing to complete a deadline. With a standing desk, this is not possible since you are forced to maintain a proper structure while working.  That is why this concept of a standing desk has pervaded into the home space as well, with people realizing its numerous benefits. You can buy one of course, but if you want to be adventurous and thrifty, you can just as easily make one as well. There are numerous examples of tutorials etc. online and you can make your own desk by following guidelines for a DIY standing desk.

How to make a DIY standing desk

A DIY standing desk is relatively easy to make if you have prior know-how of building and you are able to follow instructions carefully. What you first need to do is decide where you want to place your table.  Next will come the very tedious and yet extremely necessary job of taking careful measurements for your table. You not only need to take measurements of the space that will be hosting your desk but of yourself as well since you will need to be comfortable while standing and working. So what you need to do is take off your shoes and stand straight against a wall – take the appropriate measurements of your height without slouching. Then position your hands in such a way that your elbows are at the position you would be typing in. Have someone mark off this point for you.  This is where your desk top will be. You can choose a base table and then using this existing table as a benchmark, build or structure a new table to go on top of it.  Make sure you do the measurements carefully else you will end up with a table that is too high or too low and you will have to slouch or strain to do your work, which defeats the purpose of a do it yourself standing desk.
